Checking In After a Flight

Summary

After landing a dispatched flight, you submit a return from the iOS app — entering your Hobbs and Tach readings, an optional fuel state, and any squawks. The record goes to the dispatcher for review. Once finalized, a completed flight record appears in your event detail. The whole process takes about a minute on the ramp.

Who this is for

Students and instructors completing a scheduled, dispatched flight. If you are an instructor, also see Running a Scheduled Flight for the full lifecycle including the check-out step and lesson linking.

Finding your event

Open the Schedule tab. Your active flight shows an In Progress chip (blue). If the scheduled end time has passed without a submitted return, the chip changes to Overdue (red) — the check-in flow is the same either way.

Tap the event card to open Event Detail, then tap Submit Return.

Filling in the return

The form title is "Submit Return". Complete each section:

Return Time — required. Defaults to the current time; adjust if you landed a few minutes ago.

Meter Readings — required. Enter your Hobbs In reading. The hint next to the field shows the check-out reading for reference (e.g., "Check-out: 1234.5"). Enter Tach In as well; for a twin-engine aircraft, separate Engine 1 and Engine 2 Tach readings are shown.

Fuel In (optional) — select a fuel state from the picker. Leave as "Not specified" if you're not sure.

Notes (optional) — any return notes for the dispatcher.

Report Squawk (optional) — tap Report Squawk to file a write-up for anything you noticed during the flight. Tap + Add to file more than one. Each squawk needs a severity (Info, Discrepancy, or Do Not Fly) and a description. Squawks filed here do not support photo attachments — if you need to attach a photo, file a standalone squawk from the Event Detail after submitting the return.

Tap Submit (top-right) when everything looks correct.

Pending Dispatcher Review

After submitting, the Submit Return button is replaced by a Pending Dispatcher Review card. This card shows your submitted return time, meter readings, calculated flight time (Hobbs In minus Hobbs Out), fuel state, notes, and squawk count. The event chip stays In Progress until the dispatcher finalizes the record.

If you entered something incorrectly, tap Edit Return to reopen the form with your values pre-filled. Make your corrections and tap Save. You can edit the return as many times as needed before finalization.

After finalization

Once the dispatcher finalizes the return in the Admin Portal, your event updates:

  • Status chip: Completed (green)
  • The pending card becomes a read-only Flight Record showing your full return data

The flight record is final at that point — no further edits are possible on iOS.

Where to find past flights

Completed events appear in the Past Events section of the Schedule tab, below your upcoming events. Tap any past event to view its flight record.
