ACS Task Feedback
Summary
Score and comment on student performance against FAA Airman Certification Standards (ACS) tasks during flight lessons. Each task can be scored on a 0-10 scale with optional written feedback. Scores lock after submission—delete and re-add the task to make changes.
Who this is for
- Instructors assigned to the flight
- Chief instructors, assistant chief instructors, and admins can score tasks on any flight in their organization
Before you begin
- You must have an instructor role in the same organization as the student
- The flight must already exist in the student's log
- If the student is on a free trial, this feature may be gated behind a subscription
Steps
1. Open the student's flight
Navigate to the student's profile and open the log you want to assess.
2. Add tasks to the flight
From the Tasks tab, tap the + button. Select tasks from the ACS standard list and confirm.
3. Score a task
Tap a task card to open the Edit Task sheet (or swipe left and tap Edit).
| Field | Description |

What happens next
- The assessment is saved to the student's flight record
- The score contributes to the student's ACS task progress tracking
- Other instructors can view the score but cannot modify it
- The student can view scores and comments in their personal log (read-only)
Common issues
| Problem | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| "Skip Task Score" toggle is disabled | A score has already been added | Delete the task and re-add it to change the assessment |
| Swipe actions don't appear on task cards | You don't have edit permission for this flight | Verify you're assigned to the flight or have admin/chief instructor role |
| "Student ID is missing. Cannot fetch tasks." | Flight data didn't load correctly | Close and reopen the flight, or restart the app |
| "Failed to add task assessment. Please try again later." | Network error | Check your connection and try again |
| "Failed to update task assessment. Please try again later." | Network error on edit | Check your connection and try again |
| Task shows another instructor's score | Another instructor already scored this task | Tasks lock to the instructor who scored them first |
How this works
Score locking: Once an instructor submits a score, it cannot be changed or removed via the toggle. The app displays: "A score has already been added and can't be skipped. To make changes, remove this task and re-add it."
Single instructor per task: Only one instructor can score each task on a given flight. If Instructor A scores a task, Instructor B can view it but cannot modify or override it.
Optimistic updates: When you delete a task, the UI updates immediately before the server confirms. If the deletion fails, the task reappears with an error message.
